There’s no doubt that PDF documents are a great way of displaying and distributing documents but they do tend to come with all kinds of annoying restrictions.

PDF Unlocker is a simple and useful application that can remove all kinds of restrictions on PDF files. It works by removing passwords that restrict access in two areas. One is for passwords that restrict some functions such as printing copying and pasting. The second is any password that might prevent you from accessing or opening a PDF file.

To remove the first type of restrictions, just drag your PDF file onto a link on your desktop or alternatively onto the PDF Unlocker icon on your desktop. Instantly, it should remove the password and allow printing or copying & pasting the contents from the PDF File. To unlock the second kind of restriction, you have to right click and select “Remove PDF Password” and close the application. However, the former function seems to work most of the time but the latter would not remove the password in my case. If you are having problems, you can leave a comment on the developer’s blog.

Freeware PDF Unlocker can help you access and edit those protected PDF files that you’ve been unable to access up until now but don’t bank on it.

with 3.5g and plan to increase bandwidth by 5-10 times by many countries to start next generation networks,,and also lot of cost cut-down ,, lot is going to happen in this arena !!

Kudos for guys behind this!!

AND THIS IS GREEN …cz it saves lota expenditure , expenses and materials , prevents problems with waste disposal cz often conferences use huge amount of plastic and petroleum derived products for decorations and infrastructure..

WIKI GENES– new life for genetics.

WikiGenes attempts to combine traditional peer-review and open access collaboration through explicit authorship and a community rating system.

Robert Hoffman does not propose that researchers take on a publishing revolution. He does not suggest abandoning the mechanics of conventional science publishing in pursuit of a Science 2.0–inspired free-for-all. Rather, he suggests that the two platforms―the traditional peer-review process and open access resources online―could become synergistic entities if their basic, underling principles were combined. He believes that Wikigenes.org is the web tool to accomplish just that.

Hoffman, a post-doctoral research fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), called WikiGenes, a “collaborative encyclopedia” that combines the bottom-up approach of wikis with the time-tested practice of peer-review. In his 2008 Nature Genetics paper outlining the project, Hoffman said that WikiGenes is far more technologically advanced than traditional wiki pages, and he is optimistic for the resource’s future.

A screen capture of Phillip Boegh’s original WikiGenes article “Open Source Taxonomy.” Source: WikiGenes.org.

WikiGenes, which was launched in August 2008, is described by Hoffman as “a dynamic collaborative knowledge base for the life sciences that provides authors with due credit and that can evolve via continual revision and traditional peer-review into a rigorous scientific tool.”

Making use of intuitive hyperlinking capabilities and increased usability, Hoffman said that WikiGenes may make scientific wikis viable for the first time.

The project’s most distinguishing feature is explicit authorship. As with traditional wiki pages, all registered authors are invited to edit or add to the content in articles. However, in WikiGenes each individual edit to an article, dataset, or hyperlink is attributed to the author who entered it. Users also have the ability to report author-specific vandalism.

“How many scientists would publish, for instance, their research and best theories in Nature without authorship, anonymously?” Hoffman told BioTechniques, noting the shortfall of traditional wikis for their lack of accountable authorship. But WikiGenes’ author tracking technology is “a major breakthrough for Web 2.0.,” he said, citing that undisputed attribution and the ability to examine authorship with one mouse-click seem to have positively affected contributors’ discretion in posting.

Hoffman expects this mandatory accountability will entice users: authors will be more likely to contribute if they receive personal recognition, and participants can establish credibility through the article comment and rating system. “I suppose it is a bit like driving a car with or without license plate,” he said. He is hopeful that, over time, a hierarchy based on reputation will start to emerge and top-rated contributors will become respected WikiGenes reviewers.

“In the context of scientific wikis, the implementation of a two-tier review model seems natural,” he said. “Articles with high access rates or community ratings could be selected by editors and submitted for in-depth review.”

It’s much too early to expect such a reputational hierarchy to have evolved, Hoffman explained. In the meantime, WikiGenes must rely on the contributors’ external reputation by default.

“I expect it will take years for [them] to fully develop,” he said of WikiGenes-specific reputations.

There are some caveats to WikiGenes’ signature format. Authors can elect to publish entries as “private” so that only selected co-authors can make edits. In his paper, Hoffman recognized the potential for group mentality to stifle the introduction of novel ideas. He also noted that any collaborative network requires attractive resources for potential users. Taking these points into account, WikiGenes offers researchers an incentive to join—access to thousands of articles on chemical compounds, proteins, and organisms from Information Hyperlinked over Proteins (iHOP), another online resource established by Hoffman. Additionally, WikiGenes encompasses all life sciences disciplines, not just genetics, and welcomes contributions from clinicians, teachers, researchers, and other professionals.

WikiGenes user Phillip Boegh, who is a research coordinator at the University of Copenhagen, told BioTechniques that he has authored two original articles on the site, but hasn’t yet met any collaborators through it. He also plans to rework the novel material he published to WikiGenes and submit it for a traditional publishing format “to obtain the quota needed at my position,” he said.

Boegh said that no open reviews have begun of his WikiGenes published work, though he hopes that they soon will.

While the future success of WikiGenes remains to be seen, Hoffman said that the integration of dynamic and traditional science publishing could provide researchers with “the best of both worlds: creative collaborations and static, high-quality reference articles.”

Since windows RC 7600 will be showing exit signs after few months ( march end)..its time for you to think to get a new copy..so d crtical step ahead is x64 or x86!!

Windows 7 launches this week and those waiting to upgrade should first decide if they want to install the Windows 7 64-bit (x64) version or stick with 32-bit (x86) Windows. Why? Even if you install 32-bit initially, it should be possible to upgrade to 64-bit later, right? Wrong.

You can’t upgrade from 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit without doing a fresh “clean” install, which requires you to reinstall all applications from scratch. Therefore, you need to decide on either 32-bit or 64-bit before you install Windows 7.

While I recommend you go with 64-bit, read through this article to make an informed decision.

Background: What is 32-bit and 64-bit?

32-bit and 64-bit are computer architectures that specify the length of data types and addresses that are supported. What this means for the average user is how much memory can be used effectively and how powerful the number-crunching capacity of the CPU is.

Since Windows XP was originally only released as a 32-bit operating system, and because older hardware have 32-bit device drivers, application development on the Windows platform has been slow in moving to 64-bit. However, after both Windows XP and Vista were released in 64-bit, Microsoft is now pushing 64-bit strongly, and you can expect application developers to take advantage of 64-bit computing soon.

Should You Buy 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7?

Fortunately, you do not need to worry about all this when purchasing a computer or Windows 7. If you are buying a new PC from a vendor, it will ship with 64-bit Windows pre-installed if the configuration supports 64-bit. If you buy retail boxed versions of Windows 7, they will include both 32-bit and 64-bit editions, except for the Home Basic edition.

Advantages of 64-bit

There are several benefits of going to Windows 7 64-bit:

With 32-bit Windows, you can use a maximum of 4GB RAM. 64-bit Windows 7 runs very fast with 4GB and you can upgrade your RAM to 8 or 16 GB later, making your system future-proof.

A 32-bit OS can theoretically use up to 4 GB of RAM, but 32-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 see a maximum of 3.12 GB. With 64-bit Windows 7, you can use the full 4GB RAM.

You get better security with 64-bit Windows. All 64-bit device drivers are digitally signed, which means you will not have random crashes. You also get more advanced security features like Kernel Patch Protection with 64-bit Windows 7.

Since 64-bit systems process more information and support greater RAM, Windows 7 is more responsive when you are running complex applications or many applications simultaneously. If you use graphics applications like Photoshop, video editing, games, CAD, etc., you should go 64-bit.

Not all applications have 64-bit versions that take advantage of the 64-bit architecture, but you can expect more of them after Windows 7 goes mainstream. Meanwhile, most 32-bit applications work fine under 64-bit Windows. If any of them don’t for some reason, you can reasonably expect the application developers to fix any issues, because a lot of people will be running 64-bit Windows.

Check If Your PC Supports 64-Bit Windows 7

If you have bought or upgraded your computer in the past couple of years, with an Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent/higher processor, your PC is already equipped to run 64-bit Windows 7. If you want to make sure, you can do any of the following:

If you are running 32-bit Windows Vista, go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Performance Information and Tools. Click View and print details. In the System section, you can see whether your PC is 64-bit capable.

You can use the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to find out if your system can run 64-bit Windows 7.

Check the Windows 7 Compatibility Center to see if your devices have 64-bit drivers.

When You Should Use 32-bit

There are some situations in which you are better off using 32-bit Windows 7:

If you use only 2GB of RAM, and do not plan to upgrade anytime soon. To really take advantage of 64-bit Windows 7, you need minimum 4GB RAM.

You have legacy devices like scanners and printers that do not have 64-bit device drivers. 32-bit drivers are not supported under 64-bit Windows 7, so you should make sure all the devices you need to use are compatible with 64-bit.

You run old 16-bit applications that were developed for Windows 3.1 or DOS. These won’t run under 64-bit Windows.

Did this post clear your doubts about 32-bit and 64-bit Windows versions? Is your system ready for 64-bit Windows 7? Feel free to share and ask any questions in the comments!

Windows 7 launches this week and those waiting to upgrade should first decide if they want to install the Windows 7 64-bit (x64) version or stick with 32-bit (x86) Windows.
